Visitor Parking FAQ

Not sure what type of parking to provide a visitor? Use the following information as your guide.

You can also view a recording of the Visitor Parking Workshop here.

1 - 10 Visitors

Visitor coupon codes are a quick and easy solution for providing visitors with a parking permit. Simply email/text the 8-digit code to your visitor and they’ll redeem it at any parking permit machine for a student daily permit. We recommend departments keep a small batch of coupon codes ready for any unexpected or last minute visitors.

Visitor parking requests are the best solution for small groups of visitors that are scheduled to be on campus. This is also the only way to purchase employee parking for a visitor.

More than 10 Visitors

Submit an event request and UTAPS will arrange the best parking solution for your event.

Small events will be issued a single coupon code that you will distribute to all your event attendees (email, Facebook, website, etc.). The attendees will redeem the coupon code at any parking permit machine for a student daily permit. You will be billed based on the number of coupon code redemptions.

Large events be issued an assigned parking lot where no permit is required during the event.

Volunteers for a single event

If you submitted an event parking request, then volunteers will use the same parking arrangement as event attendees. If you only want to provide parking to event volunteers (and not attendees), submit a visitor parking request for “short-term volunteer” permits.

Volunteers for a semester

If you have volunteers working on campus on a regular basis, send them a link to our volunteer parking wiki page for instructions on how to obtain a semester parking permit.

Have any other questions/concerns? The information below may have what you’re looking for. If not, email parking@csus.edu.

How will visitors park in special signed spaces (e.g. “AB”, “TD”)?

Most of the special spaces on campus will continue to use paper goldenrod permits for now.

How much lead time is required for an emailed request?

We try to complete requests the same day we receive them, but same day turnaround is not guaranteed. Please submit your request as soon as possible at least one day ahead of time.

How can I access the visitor parking request form?

You must be approved to access the visitor parking system. Submit a CARS OnBase form with the visitor parking access selected.

If I have visitors for multiple non-consecutive days, do we have to enter a separate request for each date?

Yes, depending on how many days. For example: if you have a visitor on on campus Mon/Wed/Fri, you can submit a single request for a weekly permit instead of three separate requests for daily permits. Another example: if you have a visitor on campus every Monday, you’ll have to submit a request for each date.

How will a visitor delete/update a vehicle?

The visitor can email parking@csus.edu any changes that need to be made to their permit. This includes adding a new license plate.

How can I request waived-fee permits for groups?

Continue to use the AUE Event Parking form to request waived-fee parking.

How can I request parking for visitors at the Downtown Center (304 S Street)?

Coupon codes do not work downtown. Submit a visitor parking request for this location.

How do I provide parking for long-term guest visitors?

Check the volunteer parking page to determine if they qualify for a volunteer parking permit. If they don’t qualify for a volunteer permit, your department (or the visitor) can email parking@csus.edu and request approval to purchase a semester permit.

Can I exchange the old “scratcher” permits?

Yes, bring your scratcher permits into the UTAPS office and we’ll replace them with coupon codes.

What if the visitor already registered their personal vehicle, but ended up with a rental car on campus?

The visitor can call 916-278-7275 or email parking@csus.edu their license plates (personal and rental vehicle) and we’ll update the permit.

Can CSU employees from other campuses use their parking permits at Sac State?

Yes, but they must go into the UTAPS office to be issued a daily virtual parking permit.

How do I provide parking for a week-long event?

Submit an event parking request and we’ll issue a coupon code for attendees.

Do I have to pay for coupon codes up front?

Visitor coupon codes require payment up front. Event coupon codes will be billed after the event based on the number of times the code was used.

Does a vendor parking in a loading zone need a permit?

The vendor does not need a parking permit if they are actively loading/unloading. The vendor will need a parking permit if they need to stage or wait in a regular parking space.

Will visitors need a parking portal account to use the special visitor parking request link?

Yes, the visitors will be prompted to create an account if they do not have one. Once they have their account setup, they can activate their parking permit.

If I visit another CSU campus, is my virtual parking permit valid there?

You must contact that campus to determine if they accept a Sac State permit. Most campuses do, but make sure you call and verify first.

Can off campus event planners pay event parking fees with their credit card?

Yes, they can use their credit card at the UTAPS office to pay event fees.

When I try to access the Visitor Parking form, I receive the error “Your account does not currently exist in the Parking database.”

Your parking account has the wrong Sac State ID assigned to it. Please email this error message to parking@csus.edu to have your account updated.

When I try to access the Visitor Parking form, I receive the error “Your customer type is not eligible to submit new permit requests.”

This can happen when you’re logged into the parking portal with your personal account. You also have a requester account that allows access to visitor permits. We just need to make sure you’re logged out of your personal account so you can login with your requester account.

First, go to the parking portal and log out by clicking your name in the top right corner and then clicking the logout button:

Next, go to your MySacState and click the Request Visitor Parking Permit button.

You should see the following message when logged into your requester account:
